National Nurse Response Team
The National Nurse Response Team (NNRT) has been disbanded as of October 2009. It was a specialty Disaster Medical Assistance Team supervised by the National Disaster Medical System under direction of the Department of Health and Human Services. NNRT was composed of registered nurses from all 50 states, as well as from the U.S. territories.
Mission
To be prepared for and respond to national need for chemoprophylaxis and mass vaccination, and to provide essential and necessary nursing support during a disaster or national emergency.
Operations
NNRT was managed within three geographic regions: NNRT East, NNRT Central, and NNRT West. Each region was supervised by civilian nurses who had been appointed as its command staff: the core staff were a team commander, a deputy team commander, and an administrative officer.
Command Staff
The Team Commander supervised the overall function of a regional team and provided for team orientation and training programs.
The Deputy Team Commander managed and supervised all aspects of a disaster mission, both operational and managerial.
The Administrative Officer implemented and analyzed programs, defined goals and policies, and coordinated personnel-related matters with NDMS.
